Tim Powell is an internationally recognized filmmaker and a five-time Emmy award-winner. He has 15 feature films to his credit, including director/writer for the internationally released theatrical feature film, "Riding with James Dean," as well as directing “A Weekend with Pablo Picasso,” winner for Best Biographical Feature Film at the Cannes World Film Festival* and an Official Selection at the Sedona International Film Festival and Rotterdam Independent Film Festival. Other feature films include directing the concert sequences for the theatrically released (AMC Theatres) concert documentary “Como un Sueño,” featuring Gerardo Ortiz. He also worked on many other feature films as a director, second-unit director, director of photography, and editor, among other roles. He has written nine feature screenplays, four sold or optioned, one produced and four in development.
In the field of documentary production, Tim Powell worked for 5 years as a director with National Geographic Explorer and wrote and directed many long-form documentary films for major domestic cable and international broadcasters and distributors. Tim worked as a producer and/or director for 13 series for the Discovery Channel and Discovery Networks and worked on over 350 episodes of network television for ABC, NBC, CBS, and FOX. He has a long history with Walt Disney Productions and Disney Entertainment, including live shows and network television specials. He has traveled all over the world, filming documentaries in 25 countries. He recently worked as a supervising producer for MGM on an Amazon Prime original series and two seasons of a series for the National Geographic Channel.
Tim is also an active filmmaker for social change issues. He has directed and edited many documentaries on social issues and directed the United Nations Peace Day Global Broadcast, streamed live from the United Nations. He has multiple Emmy award nominations for prime-time, national, and regional programs, with 5 Emmy award wins, including Emmy awards for documentary films and live directing (NATAS-PSW). Currently, he specializes in Immersive VR360 and VR180 3D productions, including Immersive narrative films, documentaries, and concert films.
